Referral Marketing Mistakes To Avoid – Updated 2019

Referral marketing is one of the best ways to stay on top of a target audience. You need this in your campaign to take you to another level and ensure that you get the right reactions from your growing supporters. However, there is a right way to do it and a wrong way to achieve your feats. You want to make sure that this is more so organic, not invasive. At the end of the day, value needs to be the most important thing you provide to the people. Here are a few mistakes you need to avoid when getting on your referral marketing campaign.

Not Having the Right Incentives

Referral marketing isn’t just about you, you need to appeal to your supporters. Remember, they are that first string, the backbone of your brand when it comes to creating a close-knit audience. If you offer credits and different discounts to your regular supporters, that may be a great thing. Why? They are already engaged and it encourages them to buy more. However, you may have a few people that don’t regularly buy. A simple discount or credits may sound a bit invasive. However, a nice gift card with a “Thank You” message or a tailor-made incentive works better. This is the same as if you had a long term-supporters who brought you customers. Pick something they would enjoy so it’s not in vain.

Neglecting Your Supporters’ Cause

Remember, everyone is different in the way they do things. You need to treat each referral as an individual. Rather than just setup a program for everyone, think of every person as someone who needs a different campaign. Why? Well, people have their own creative thinking and they work in a unique manner. It’s like ordering food – one person may like curry and another person likes jerk spice. With that being said, you need to interact with your supporter because that person may need a little bit of help getting things off the ground. That can include the right banners, custom email templates, etc. However, there are people that just need a few guidelines and they can do it all themselves. Just know that you need to cater to each situation like they are a member of your family.

No Standards to a Get Referral

You need to really look at each person you bring under the fold. Not every referral is good for you. That’s why you need to have a process to see who’s the best fit for YOUR referral program. Look at their value, what they represent, and how that goes into your mission. Take a look at their experience, resume, and more to see their capabilities. Also, make your own kind of probationary method to see how they progress. This is a good way to weed out people who simply don’t mesh with your goals.

These are just a few things you need to avoid to create a long term business. Do you have any feedback or input? Post a comment below.
